Put Your Course Online
ELO's Curriculum Development Group has established an online course development grant program with the goal of converting existing courses to an asynchronous online mode. We believe that this online mode best serves the increasingly diverse learning needs of Iowa State’s students, whether enrolled on or off campus.
Only courses listed in the Iowa State University catalog and experimental courses that have been approved by the LAS Curriculum Committee will be considered. Courses proposed for conversion must have enrollments that justify their redesign to the online mode and the concomitant investment of resources and faculty time. The college will provide up to $3,000 per credit to the department for course development and faculty support. The department will have up to one year to produce the full online course. The department and instructor commit to offering the course at least twice during either a fall or spring semester within a two-year period. The course must adhere to LAS Online's Course Quality Guidelines before it is offered.
Course Development Process
LAS Online has established a course development process based on the ADDIE model for instructional design. The model has been adapated to the needs of our institutional context. All courses developed through grant funding provided by the college follow this model.
Course Evaluation
LAS Online adheres to high quality standards for the development of online courses. The development of our courses follows a set of Quality Guidelines for Online Learning that are based on the Rubric for Online Instruction. All courses developed with grant funded provided by the college are expected to implement these guidelines in their design and delivery.

Improve Your Online Course
Online Course Improvement Grants are available for courses which have been taught online for more that two years and which need updating. Priority will be given to courses whose proposed updates will bring them up to complicance with ELO's Curriculum Development Group's Online Course Quality Guidelines.
Online Course Improvement grants award up to $1000 per credit. In order to satisfy the grant, departments will agree to finish the updates within 6 months and offer the course in the online format at least twice within a two-year time span. Once the grant is awarded, the department will actively collaborate with LAS Online in the process of updating of the course.
